Allwyn, the lottery company, has named Mark Hughes as the head of security for the UK National Lottery. Hughes, who previously led the country's primary lottery organization, is set to assume his new role on January 15. Before joining Allwyn, he served as the Chief Information Security Officer at Smart DCC, an organization specializing in cybersecurity and smart meter implementation across the United Kingdom.
Hughes brings extensive experience to his new position, having spent 16 years at Vodafone, where he held various security roles. His responsibilities included leading the company's internal defense operations and support system, collaborating with the government and the country's security services.
While the British National Lottery is currently operated by the Camelot Group, Allwyn is set to take over operations in 2024.
