Lawrence Ho, the chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, a prominent gaming entity in Asia, has thrown his support behind a proposal for a multiple-entry visa program enabling travel between Hengqin and Macau, both recognized as special economic regions of China.
Ho emphasized that implementing a system allowing for multiple trips would significantly bolster the long-term growth prospects of the gaming industry. In discussions with local media outlets, he underscored the potential advantages of introducing such a visa scheme.
The Melco CEO pointed out the substantial disparity in hotel room availability between Macau and Las Vegas, highlighting that Macau currently offers only one-third of the hotel rooms available in the American counterpart. Furthermore, Ho noted that accommodations in Hengqin are more cost-effective compared to Macau.
Simultaneously, Macau's gambling revenue surged to $2.43 billion in March, marking a remarkable 53% increase compared to the previous year. These statistics underscore the pivotal role of tourism and gambling in driving the economy of the region.
