Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali finds himself in hot water as the Football Association of England (FA) has lodged new charges against him. The footballer stands accused of placing 50 bets on football matches spanning from August 12 to October 12, 2023. Tonali is required to respond to these charges by April 5.
In response to the allegations, Tonali's club issued a statement acknowledging the charge of unacceptable behavior pertaining to "alleged breaches of betting regulations." Newcastle affirmed their commitment to cooperation with the ongoing investigation and reiterated their full support for Tonali.
Reports from The Telegraph indicate that the 50 bets in question, as per the Association's allegations, also involve matches featuring Newcastle. Notably, Tonali exclusively wagered on Newcastle's success, even in matches where he was part of the playing squad. Despite being under suspension since October 26, 2023, Tonali remains engaged in training with fellow club members. His agent had previously disclosed that Tonali had been diagnosed with a gambling addiction.
