UK Gambling Minister Stuart Andrew has resigned from his post and stepped down as a Member of Parliament following Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s announcement of a general election scheduled for July 4.
In a statement on social media, Andrew confirmed his resignation: “Parliament will be dissolved, and there will be no members of parliament until after the general elections. I am no longer a Member of Parliament. All the best to all my former constituents.”
Appointed as Gambling Minister in March 2023, Andrew's tenure coincided with the release of the "white paper," a comprehensive review of the Gambling Act. He was the sixth minister to oversee this review, following Nigel Huddleston, who served as the first Minister for Gambling from 2018 to 2021. Andrew’s departure adds uncertainty to the ongoing efforts to reform the UK’s gambling regulations.
