Analyst: Prospects for Legalized Gambling in Hawaii Remain Unpromising

Hawaii stands out among the U.S. states with its stringent gambling laws, barring sports betting, horse racing, lotteries, card games, casino gambling, and even bingo. The strict regulations extend to cruise ships in Hawaiian waters, where gambling remains taboo.

Despite several bills presented in the state Senate and House advocating for the legalization of online gambling, casinos, and sports betting, they have encountered limited support. Some bills, initially slated for 2023, have been deferred to the current session without substantial backing.

Political analyst Neil Milner suggests that gambling lacks popularity among Hawaii's authorities and the general population. Milner argues that if there were a significant contingent of gambling enthusiasts, both legislative houses would likely lend their support.

While acknowledging that many residents partake in gambling activities during visits to Las Vegas, Milner emphasizes that their trips are not solely centered around casinos but also involve socializing with friends and family.
