Foxtel Under Scrutiny for Illegal Bookmaker Advertisements During Cricket Match

Foxtel, the pay TV channel, is facing an investigation into potential violations of advertising laws related to gambling. The scrutiny comes after the broadcast of a test cricket match between Australia and New Zealand featured logos from two illegal bookmakers.

A virtual billboard displaying the PariMatch bookmaker logo appeared on the field, prompting concerns. PariMatch's online casino and sportsbook under this brand have been blocked by the Australian Communications and Media Authority since 2022. Additionally, electronic banners of other illegal bookmakers, including 1xBat (a mirror site for 1xBet), were shown during the broadcast.

The New Zealand Cricket organization clarified that New Zealand viewers did not see operator logos, in contrast to Australian viewers. The New Zealand Home Office is investigating whether the advertisements violate the country's laws, which criminalize promoting gambling services from overseas.
