Maine's First Month of Sports Betting Nets $37.5M

During the first month after legalizing sports betting in Maine, gamers contributed nearly $40 million to the state’s budget, resulting in approximately $470,000 in tax revenues.

Milt Champion, the director of the relevant department, stated that the integration of betting into Maine’s entertainment industry went smoothly. Only a few complaints about unfair event organization were recorded on the support service hotline during the month.

Governor Janet Mills granted exclusive rights to several Native American bookmakers operating online sports betting. Betting in Maine is regulated by Native American tribes, as in many other U.S. states. A large portion of bets was placed through the operator DraftKings, which was chosen by the Passamaquoddy tribe.
