NCAA Launches "Draw the Line" Program to Educate US Youth on Safe Sports Betting
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States has initiated the "Draw the Line" program to raise awareness among young citizens about the potential dangers associated with sports betting.
Through this program, experts will utilize social media platforms and other online channels to educate youth about the risks of illegal sports betting. The educational module includes information about sports betting, answers to frequently asked questions, and highlights the specific risks faced by student-athletes. This includes guidance on how to respond if approached with offers of involvement in a "fixed match" or encountering threats on social media related to betting.
It's worth noting that sports betting is legal in over 30 states across the US. Despite this, the NCAA is concerned as statistics show that more than half of the country's students engage in sports betting at least once a year. This is particularly concerning given that the legal minimum age for betting in all states where it is permitted is 21 years old. The "Draw the Line" program aims to equip youth with the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions and avoid the potential pitfalls of sports betting.
