NCAA Pushes for Ban on College Betting

Charlie Baker, the President of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), announced plans to push for a ban on sports betting on college events in the United States. The decision comes in response to reports of student athletes facing harassment related to betting activities.

Baker highlighted the increasing prevalence of betting issues nationwide, emphasizing that intra-college betting poses a direct threat to the integrity of collegiate competitions. He noted that some states, upon being contacted by the NCAA regarding these threats, have opted to implement bans on intramural betting altogether.

One such state is Ohio, where the Casino Control Commission (OCCC) recently instituted a ban on betting on college sports at the NCAA's request. Baker personally reached out to Matt Shuler, the executive director of the commission, urging for restrictions on betting. As a result, operators implemented the restrictions beginning March 1.
