Study Shows Two-Thirds of Super Bowl Bets Placed on Unregulated Sites
According to a study conducted by marketplace analytics firm Yield Sec, two out of three bets made on the Super Bowl were placed on illegal betting sites.
Americans collectively wagered $5.37 billion on the football championship final, with only $1.4 billion recorded on licensed and regulated platforms. Out of approximately 350.5 million bets placed on the event, around 228.2 million bets were made on the unregulated black market.
Analysts emphasize that, based on the study, the unregulated sports betting sector is maintaining its position and not experiencing losses. However, legal platforms and bookmakers dispute the findings of the report.
Contrary to Yield Sec's study, the American Gaming Association (AGA) referenced its own research, stating that 77% of bets made during last year's Super Bowl were placed with licensed operators. The association asserts that the trend continues in 2023.
