Swedish Gambling Authority Identifies Concerning Trends in Gaming Industry

The Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA), in collaboration with Enkätfabriken, conducted a study to assess the gambling habits of Swedish citizens. The findings reveal concerning trends and sentiments related to gambling in the country.

According to the survey, 75% of Swedes participated in gambling activities in the last 12 months. At the time of the study, 41% of respondents had engaged in gambling in the past week, showing an increase from 38% in 2022 and 34% in 2021.

Lottery, sports betting, and bingo emerged as the most popular forms of gambling. Online casinos lagged behind, with only 10% of respondents having played in the past year. An equal number expressed concerns about spending too much time gambling in pursuit of profits and victories.

A notable finding was that many Swedes struggled to distinguish between legal operators and those on the black gambling market. A significant 91% of respondents lacked knowledge on how to determine if a website held a Swedish gaming license.
