US States Mull Tighter Restrictions on Betting

Six years post the legalization of sports betting, state legislators and regulators are intensifying efforts to safeguard consumers and athletes. Recent bills have emerged proposing bans on using credit cards for digital gambling accounts and imposing strict limitations on betting involving college players.

Pennsylvania Senator Wayne Fontana has introduced a bill in the Senate aiming to prohibit credit card usage for funding accounts on any online casino, lottery, or bookmaker platform—a practice currently permitted under Pennsylvania law.

In North Carolina, where sports betting was legalized just last month in March, legislator Marcia Morey is spearheading an initiative to outlaw betting on college players. Advocates for responsible and problem gambling view such measures as an additional safeguard for athletes. These moves underscore a growing commitment to ensuring the integrity of sports betting and protecting both consumers and athletes alike.
