Dutch Court Orders Refunds to Entain and Flutter Players

The Overijssel District Court in the Netherlands has ruled in favor of players in two separate cases involving claims against Flutter-owned PokerStars and Entain subsidiary Bwin.

The court found that both organizations had operated in the country's gray gambling market without a license before regulations were implemented in 2021, thereby violating Dutch law. As a result, one Bwin player has been instructed to reimburse €187,622 plus interest for bets placed between January 2018 and November 2019. Similarly, a player using one of Flutter's brands will receive refunds totaling $230,705 and €400 plus interest for bets made between 2006 and 2021.

Although neither subsidiary of the two gambling giants is currently active in the market, Entain holds a license in the Netherlands and operates under its BetCity brand. These rulings mark a significant legal development in the Dutch gambling landscape, emphasizing the importance of compliance with regulatory requirements.
