Flemish Center Proposes Raising Gambling Age Limit to 21 in Belgium

The Flemish Center of Expertise on Alcohol, Drugs, and Gambling (VAD) in Belgium has put forth a memorandum advocating for changes to the existing gambling legislation in the country. One of the key recommendations is to increase the age limit for participating in gambling from 18 to 21 years old. VAD expresses concerns regarding the impact of gambling on young individuals.

Although Belgian law already prohibits individuals under 21 from engaging in certain forms of gambling, VAD aims to extend these restrictions to cover all gambling activities, including lotteries and bingo. Additionally, the center proposes stricter regulations on online gambling advertising and an increase in contribution costs. The memorandum emphasizes the need to protect young people from potential gambling-related harms.
