IBIA and NBO Advocate for Norwegian Licensing

The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) and the Norwegian Online Gaming Association (NBO) have joined forces to advocate for a licensing system in Norway, targeting improvements in online gaming and combatting match-fixing. This partnership follows a similar agreement between the IBIA and Sweden's Spelinspektionen.

Currently, Norway is one of the few European countries without a formal licensing policy for gambling, a situation that may lead to significant offshore gambling revenues, according to H2 Gambling Capital. The IBIA and NBO memorandum aims to challenge Norway's monopolistic approach and promote a regulated, more effective system for consumer protection and industry integrity.

This collaboration is part of a broader movement, with entities like the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) also calling for a transition to a licensing model in online gambling, reflecting a shift towards modern, regulated frameworks.

The IBIA's partnerships extend beyond Europe, with recent collaborations in Brazil aimed at minimizing match-fixing as the country moves towards legalizing online sports betting.
