In Sweden, 100,000 people have self-excluded from gambling
Spelpaus is Sweden's self-exclusion system for gambling, run by Spelinspektionen. More than 100,000 people have used it to self-exclude themselves. It was introduced with the start of 2019 as part of Sweden's new gambling regulation with a focus on responsible gambling.
Spelpaus provides self-exclusion with different time limits ranging from one month to an indefinite period, but not less than 12 months. This exclusion applies to various gambling activities including casinos, bingo, lotteries, and others. It is important to note that once self-exclusion is introduced, it cannot be revoked before the deadline.
Spelinspektionen reported that over 100,000 people have used Spelpaus, indicating that the service is growing in popularity. The system also provides support for relatives, including a free support line. It can provide advice and referrals to appropriate psychological support services. Earlier this month, representatives from Spelinspektionen visited the UK to discuss gambling issues with Sportradar and the Gambling Commission.
