Italy Introduces New Tax Rules on Bonuses

Italy will implement new rules concerning bonuses and bookmakers starting June 1, confirmed by the country’s Agency for Customs Affairs and Monopolies (ADM). The new regulations, governed by a special resolution, outline the legal criteria for the use of bonuses, specifying conditions, forms of payment, and taxation methods.

The new rules introduce a significant "bonus restriction," prohibiting Italian bookmakers from offering bonuses exceeding 100 euros per client for fixed-odds betting. Additionally, ADM will now calculate winnings tax based on both the bonus used and any bet placed by the player.

In an effort to streamline operations and reduce legal disputes, ADM is also launching a "tangible bug" resolution process. This new system allows for systematic error corrections without resorting to legal action, aiming to decrease consumer litigation with licensed bookmakers.

ADM views this regulatory update as a crucial step in fostering a more transparent and regulated betting environment in Italy.
