Latvia to Strengthen Control Over Illegal Gambling Advertising

Latvia is set to implement amendments to its advertising law aimed at curbing illegal gambling and preventing the inappropriate promotion of lotteries. The Ministry of Finance highlighted the need for regulatory measures in the gambling industry, and the Inspectorate for the Supervision of Lotteries and Gambling will be designated as the regulator.

The amendments are designed to protect public interests by mitigating the adverse impacts of gambling, emphasizing the importance of a controlled, legal, socially responsible, and non-addictive gambling environment. The focus is on regulating advertising to create a healthier gambling atmosphere. The existing Gambling and Lotteries Law lacks provisions for the supervision of advertising, prompting the introduction of these amendments.
