Operators in Montenegro Oppose Proposed Ban on Electronic Payments

The Montenegrin government's proposal to ban electronic payment methods on betting sites has faced opposition from industry stakeholders. Montenegro Bet, a trade association, has expressed its disagreement with the proposed measure, deeming it unconstitutional.

This potential change is outlined in Montenegro's gambling law. If approved, operators would be prohibited from accepting deposits through online and mobile banking methods. Instead, players would be required to deposit cash at bookmakers or use designated terminals at specific locations to fund their accounts with bank cards.

Montenegro Bet has initiated a petition calling for the repeal of the proposed amendment, gathering 25 thousand signatures, which represents approximately 8% of the country's adult population. The association emphasizes that the ban could have severe consequences for the gambling industry, potentially leading to job cuts.
