Thai Authorities Crack Down on Gambling Sites: Over 25,000 Blocked
The Thai government has intensified its efforts against online gambling, categorizing it as a significant economic offense. Deputy government spokeswoman Kanika Aungjit stated that authorities are actively monitoring and restricting such illicit websites nationwide.
Prime Minister Sretta Thaweesinh has been vocal about the dangers posed by online gambling, recognizing it as a threat not only to the economy but also to society at large. Thaweesinh highlighted concerns about these platforms exploiting users' personal data and failing to prevent minors from accessing gambling activities.
Between October 1, 2023, and March 5, 2024, the Ministry of Digital Economy has taken decisive action by blocking over 60,000 websites containing inappropriate content. Notably, more than 25,000 of these sites were identified as facilitating online gambling, underscoring the government's commitment to combating this issue.
