The Bulgarian gambling industry opposed new taxes on gambling

The introduction of new taxes on gambling in Bulgaria has sparked opposition from major companies within the gambling industry. The National Assembly Committee on Budget and Finance has implemented changes that will result in a 300% increase in gambling license fees.

The Association of the Gaming Industry of Bulgaria (AGIB) has voiced its concerns regarding the substantial changes. Finance Minister Asen Vassilev predicts an additional annual tax increase of 200 million leva ($112 million) as a result of these alterations.

AGIB argues that the new taxes are disproportionate and may lead to adverse consequences. Specifically, it could render the operations of certain operators unsustainable, resulting in financial losses or potential bankruptcy. The regulator has already contributed approximately BGN 350 million in taxes to the local economy.
