US Court of Appeals Remands Gambling Case Against Google, Apple, and Meta

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has remanded illegal gambling claims against tech giants Google, Apple, and Meta back to the U.S. District Court. These lawsuits allege that the companies profited from illegal gambling activities on their platforms. Specifically, the tech giants are accused of promoting illegal gambling through gaming apps and earning revenue by taking a cut from the sale of virtual currency used in these apps.

The cases were initially brought to the appeals court in April to determine whether the companies would be granted immunity. However, the Ninth Circuit panel concluded that it lacked jurisdiction to decide on the matter and has thus returned the case to U.S. District Court Judge Edward Davila for further review.
