Antonio Casa Receives Ban Until 2031 for Betting Offenses
Brazilian referee Antonio Casa has been handed a suspension of seven years and six months by the International Tennis Integrity Authority (ITIA) for his involvement in corruption and betting-related activities. Casa admitted to violating seven regulations outlined in the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP), which included manipulating match outcomes for betting purposes.
As a result of the ban, Casa is prohibited from officiating or attending any ITIA-sanctioned tennis events. Furthermore, he has been fined $8,000, with an additional suspended fine of $17,000 for breaching regulations.
Casa's case underscores the strict measures implemented to preserve the integrity of tennis competitions, particularly in light of regulations prohibiting individuals associated with the sport from engaging in betting activities.
In a related incident, former professional tennis player and Peruvian team captain Luis Horna was fined for his involvement in supporting a tennis operator and promoting betting, highlighting the ITIA's commitment to upholding integrity within the sport.
