Juventus' Nicolo Faggioli is suspected of betting on illegal platforms
He faces a three-year disqualification.
Italian footballer Nicolo Faggioli, who plays for Juventus and the Italian national team, is allegedly under investigation for betting on illegal gambling platforms.
According to the rules, Faggioli can participate in gambling, but only if it is not soccer-related and if he uses legal websites for his bets.
Article 24 of the Code of Sports Justice explains the prohibition for soccer players and other soccer participants to bet, directly or indirectly, on the results of official soccer matches organized under the auspices of FIFA, UEFA and other relevant organizations.
The Turin prosecutor's office is currently conducting a preliminary investigation to find out whether Faggioli bet and on what exactly. The investigation began in late August and could lead to the application of federal laws if bets were placed through illegal platforms or on soccer competitions.
If Faggioli is found to have violated sports regulations in connection with gambling bets, he faces a fine of at least 25,000 euros and a possible three-year disqualification.
