Michel Groothuisen to Succeed René Jansen as Chairman of KSA
Michel Groothuisen is set to take over as Chairman of the Dutch Gaming Authority (KSA), succeeding René Jansen, starting from July 1. The regulator initiated the search for the position in October 2023 after Jansen announced his decision to step down.
With a background in law and public administration, Groothuizen has been serving as Deputy Director General of the Netherlands Prison Agency (DJI) for the last four years. His previous roles include Director General of the Netherlands Institute of Forensic Psychiatry and Deputy Judge at the Arnhem Court of Appeal for the past 15 years.
Between 2001 and 2015, Groothuisen worked at the Ministry of Justice and Security, where he served as Policy Director and was responsible for various tasks, including the establishment of the KSA in 2012.
Reflecting on his new role, Groothuisen stated, “Old love never rusts. In 2007, as Director of Policy, I was responsible, among other things, for the gambling file. One of my tasks was to create the Gambling Authority. We succeeded in 2012.”
