Spanish Anti-Gambling Advocate Alberto Garzón Leaves Politics
Spanish Consumer Affairs Minister Alberto Garzón has resigned. He gained recognition for his initiatives against gambling.
During his tenure, Garzón introduced numerous restrictions on advertising by gambling service providers and banned the placement of online game logos on professional athletes' shirts. Currently, his anti-gambling initiatives are under review in the Supreme Court, with some politicians questioning their constitutionality.
Garzón also advocated for limits on online gambling deposits and loot boxes in video games. None of these measures were implemented and accepted by the Spanish government.
Pablo Bustinduy will replace Garzón, but his stance on gambling remains unclear. Analysts suggest he could pose an even bigger problem for online casinos than his predecessor. For now, the new minister has only promised to protect consumer rights.
