The cult rapper of the 2010s lost $1 million on bets in two weeks
Rapper Drake lost a million dollars in 14 days betting on global sporting events - NBA games and the Stanley Cup final. Experienced players recall that the musician always brought bad luck to the athletes he supported.
On this occasion, the artist placed a 500 thousand bet on his beloved team and, true to form, ended up losing. The infamous "Drake Curse" strikes again, with sceptics pointing out a peculiar trend: whenever Drake puts money on a sports team, it inevitably leads to their downfall. The mechanics behind this phenomenon remain shrouded in mystery, but the pattern is unmistakable.
So this time, Drake bet $500,000 on the Edmonton Oilers to win, calling his choice “obvious”, given the Canadian musician’s dedication to Canadian teams. And so, the Florida Panthers defeated the Oilers with a score of 0:3.
Despite the initial loss, the gambling rapper persisted and wagered an additional $500,000 on the Dallas Mavericks triumphing in the NBA finals. Unfortunately, luck was not on their side as both the Mavericks and the rapper faced defeat yet again. Ultimately, it was the Boston Celtics who emerged victorious in the 2024 NBA finals, claiming their 18th championship thanks in part to Jayson Tatum's remarkable 31-point performance. This victory left the Dallas Mavericks trailing behind in disappointment.
Additionally, Drake is currently facing personal challenges and is not at his peak. Once praised as a cult performer in the 2010s, the rapper has recently faced scrutiny over a scandal involving Kendrick Lamar.
He recorded a track that appears to blame Drake for having a gambling problem: “You have a problem with gambling, drinking, pills and spending. Bad with money." Drake's latest epic betting debacle seems to only confirm Lamar's words.
