Argentina Proposes Ban on Online Gambling Advertising
The Argentine Chamber of Deputies is considering a ban on online gambling advertising as part of new legislative efforts to address what lawmakers describe as a "real epidemic" of gambling in the country. Maximiliano Ferraro, a Member of Parliament and the author of the initiative, highlighted concerns about the increasing access to online gaming and its impact, particularly on young people, exacerbated by the country's economic situation.
Ferraro emphasized the necessity of passing this law to combat the growing problem of gambling addiction, citing the need for stricter regulations around gambling advertising.
Key provisions of the proposed legislation include:
- Advertising Ban: A complete ban on online gambling advertising.
- Payment Restrictions: Limiting players to funding their gaming accounts only with cash or debit cards, potentially with additional time and cost restrictions.
- Biometric Data Registry: Implementing registries of biometric data of players to prevent minors from participating in gambling activities.
The Commission for the Prevention of Addictions and Control of Illegal Drug Trafficking is currently reviewing the proposals to assess their suitability for implementation. Once finalized, the legislative measures aim to curb the negative social impacts associated with gambling, particularly among vulnerable populations.
This move represents Argentina's efforts to regulate and control the gambling industry more tightly in response to growing societal concerns.
